ATLANTA, GA – Today, Daily Kos, a large national progressive organization and pioneer for online organizing and advocacy, endorsed former House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams for Governor of Georgia. This is Daily Kos’ first statewide endorsement of the 2018 election cycle. Daily Kos has already raised over $4.2 million combined for candidates this year.
“I am honored to have earned the endorsement of Daily Kos and their community of progressives in Georgia and nationwide,” said Stacey Abrams. “Their support will be critical as I continue to speak with Georgians in every part of the state about how we can open the doors of opportunity to everyone, including those who have been left out and left behind. It is time to build a Georgia where equality fosters prosperity and every family can succeed, not just survive, and I am ready to make that vision a reality as governor.”
Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas issued the following statement regarding their endorsement:
“Daily Kos is beyond thrilled to throw our early support behind Stacey Abrams in this race,” said Moulitsas. “Abrams’ candidacy has generated incredible grassroots excitement in Georgia. Her work in the state legislature proves her stalwart commitment to voting rights, education funding, and fair and equitable tax policies. Abrams has been a crucial voice for communities of color and other underrepresented populations, and we are impressed by her efforts in this historically red state to not only elect more Democrats to the legislature, but to also establish one of the most diverse Democratic caucuses in the South.”
“We’ve supported many candidates this cycle, but the community excitement around this endorsement is off the charts,” Moulitsascontinued. “We are going to be aggressive in this race. Georgia is in the midst of dramatic demographic transformation, and Abrams reflects its future. We at Daily Kos—from the top on down—are ready to work hard to elect the first black woman governor in the United States.”
