Black Women

I have a plan to invest in Black women’s success through the fundamentals: education, healthcare, housing and making a good living. As governor, I will make public education safe and affordable for our children. I will also make motherhood safe and accessible and close the gap between minority and non-minority businesses so that we can all thrive and be surrounded by opportunity.

  • Expand economic and educational opportunity without impacting Georgia families’ bottom line.
    • Expand access to HOPE and fund need-based aid for higher education, particularly at HBCUs
    • Increase funding to public schools and decrease over-disciplining of black children
    • Make college cheaper and technical college free for all Georgians.
    • Increase access to good-paying jobs with quality training opportunities and funding 20,000 apprenticeships so Georgians can earn while they learn
  • Make quality child care affordable.
    • Increase supply of high-quality child care providers
    • Invest in and support quality child care centers.
    • Achieve Universal Pre-K that is accessible to all families
    • Increase paid parental leave by advocating for legislation to give all parents paid time off to care for newborn or recently adopted children and expanding paid leave for Georgia’s state employees

Healthcare and Housing

  • Increase access to affordable and accessible healthcare.
    • Reduce maternal mortality, support safe pregnancies and promote equal access to family planning
    • Increase healthcare access by expanding Medicaid to 500,000 Georgians and keep more hospitals open while lowering cost of care for all
    • Will create 64,000 good-paying jobs across the state
    • Defend reproductive freedom, privacy and access to abortion
    • Deprioritize abortion-related prosecutions
  • Expand access to safe and affordable housing in Georgia.
    • Support first-time homeowners and provide financial education
    • Establish a permanent “Housing Trust Fund” so that working families facing rapidly increasing property taxes are not forced out of their communities
    • Provide property tax relief for Georgia homeowners
    • Empower local governments to provide quality housing for homeowners and renters

Economic Security

  • Put money back in families’ pockets.
    • Tax rebates for everyone making less than $250,000
    • Create a Georgia Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) to help more than a million working Georgians keep more of what they earn and reinvest in themselves.
    • End wage theft and misclassification from treating employees as independent contractors
    • Enforce unemployment regulations in cooperation with the Labor Commissioner – 53% of Georgians denied unemployment during the pandemic were Black
  • Provide money and support for Black small businesses.
    • Close the gap between minority and non-minority business revenues in 6-8 years (at current pace, will take 100 years)
    • Establish a $10 million Small Business Investment Fund
    • Support first-time business owners with education, training and waiving business start up costs through the Entrepreneurship Learner’s Permit
