RELEASE: Stacey Abrams Statement On Hurricane Michael And Relief Efforts

ATLANTA – Last night, Hurricane Michael swept across South Georgia, the Florida panhandle, and parts of Alabama. Thousands of Georgians woke up to assess the damage caused by the storm and begin the long, arduous recovery process.

Today, Democratic Gubernatorial Nominee and former House Democratic Leader Stacey Abrams issued the following statement on Hurricane Michael:

“The destruction caused by Hurricane Michael has tragically impacted our state. My deepest condolences go to the family in Seminole County who lost their 11-year-old daughter—and my gratitude goes to our first responders, who put their own lives at risk to stay and help our communities,” said Leader Stacey Abrams. “Today, we will follow the lead of Governor Deal as we work to recover and restore impacted neighborhoods. Georgians are resilient—I am proud to stand with our communities that are coming together to help rehabilitate damaged businesses and homes and support our farmers in Middle and South Georgia whose pecan, cotton, and poultry farms were in the path of the storm.”

Important Information

Georgians who need assistance should visit the Georgia Emergency Management Agency website for resources and critical updates.

To ensure safety:

  • Avoid travel through areas impacted by Hurricane Michael, and call 511 for travel alerts.
  • Call 911 in case of emergency.

Please consider donating to support Hurricane Michael relief efforts. Once conditions are safe, volunteer to help those affected by Hurricane Michael through NVOAD.
