House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams Wins EMILY's List Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award
ATLANTA, GA – House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams has won the EMILY’s List Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award, an award that recognizes women serving in state or local offices who show passion and dedication through advocacy and public service.
Representative Abrams is honored and delighted to receive the award. “I am honored to be recognized by EMILY’s List with the help of my supporters. Former Representative Gabrielle Giffords has devoted her life to public service and paved the way for female legislators, showing extraordinary courage in the face of terrible tragedy. It is both a humbling and exciting honor to represent the standards she has embodied,” said Rep. Abrams.
Rep. Abrams is the first woman to lead either party in the Georgia General Assembly and is the first African-American to lead in the House of Representatives. She currently represents House District 89, which includes portions of the City of Atlanta and DeKalb County.
